During the previous black Friday the customer's website had struggled for stability under unexpected and unpresidented load. Support and IT teams had been unable to maximise the sale opportunity.
Legacy code and site configuration around database requests for stock were causing poor performance, limiting site capacity. This was combined with a poor caching solution which wasn't capable of full page website caching.
Working with customer IT teams, in house development and performance teams we were able to raise the bar from 3500 orders per hour to a potential of over 10,000 orders per hour. The site remained functional during Black Friday and the following weekend resulting in the 3 biggest online revenue days ever for the customer.
